Review of Greenleas Kestrel Way Official Opening - Thu 03 Oct 2013

Greenleas School - Kestrel Way official opening 30th September 2013
Greenleas School, officially opened their second lower school site on 30th September at Billington Grove (on the Sandhills development). The new lower school will be known as Greenleas School (Kestrel Way) and is run in conjunction with the existing site in Linslade, utilising the same experienced leadership team and board of governors.
Creating a family feel across both sites is important to the senior management team, as Mrs Katie Garricques, Head teacher, explains “We want both sites to feel part of the Greenleas family, senior staff work across both schools and a number of experienced teachers and teaching assistants from our Derwent Road site transfered to Kestrel Way to help engender the Greenleas ethos and to share best practice across both sites. The children will all wear the same uniform and share in many important events.”
Councillor Mark Versallion officially opened the new school with a ribbon cutting ceremony to reveal a beautiful mosaic created by local artist, Cathy Ebbel , assisted by the children. Cllr Versallion commented We appreciate that local parents have long awaited the new school and are encouraged by the take up. I am impressed by the progress that has been made since my last visit.”
Chair of Governors, Sue Howley MBE, welcomed parents and officials including Leighton Linslade Town Mayor Cllr Amanda Dodwell, the head teachers of many of the local schools and guests who have played important roles in the creation of the Greenleas family. Mrs Howley then cut an amazing cake designed as a replica of the school, made by four talented school mums.
Head teacher Mrs Katie Garricques is keen to point out that the school is all about the children and was proud of the role the children had played in their official opening day, “Our Year 4 children did an excellent job escorting our guests on tours around the school, where they were proud to show off their new classrooms and displays of their fellow pupils’ work. The children had made biscuits and helped in the creation of the mosaic and all the classes particularly enjoyed singing to our guests.”
Greenleas Kestrel Way, like the Derwent Road site, offers Nursery and Early Years places as well as the main lower school classes. The school initially opened with two reception classes, one Year 1 and one Year 2 class and, for this first year, a shared year 3 and 4. These will then expand to two classes per year group.
